Sleep is one of the key pillars of the enrich wellness programme as it has direct correlations to overall mental and physical well-being.

It is in these busy and demanding times we could all use a little more sleep. You owe it to yourself to get in those few extra minutes and hours. Over the next number of weeks, we will be working with you to help you improve the quality and quantity of your sleep but now, for this week, we encourage you to just bring an awareness to your sleep. How much sleep are you getting? Do you track your sleep? What is the quality of your sleep like? What areas of sleep would you like to improve? Then over the coming weeks we aim to provide you will tools, tips and strategies to help you along the way.

Sleep is so important for so many reasons:

It can have a direct impact on here health and a lack of sleep has been linked to a worsening of blood pressure and cholesterol which can be risk factors for heart disease.

Sleep can help you reduce stress. We your body is sleep deficient; it goes into a state of stress. The body’s functions are put on high alert which causes high blood pressure and produces stress hormones.

Having enough is reported to help with supporting and maintaining healthy weights. The hormones ghrelin and leptin, which regulate appetite, have been found to be disrupted by lack of sleep. If you want to maintain or lose weight, don’t forget that getting adequate sleep on a regular basis may be huge part of this.

Did you know that the sensation of falling and jerking when half asleep is actually a real thing and is called a hyping jerk and about 12% of people dream only in black and white.
